ABOUT GOB THE GNOME
A home with character.
A plan with common sense.
We’re a home renovation publication for people who care as much about how a room works as how it looks.

A SMALL GUIDE FOR BIG DECISIONS
Serious about homes.
Not too serious about ourselves.
Gob the Gnome is built around a simple idea: renovation advice should help you decide, not just make you want. A lovely photograph can spark a project. Understanding the costs, compromises, and order of work is what helps you see it through.
The name is a little playful. The approach is practical. We look for the useful question behind the exciting idea: Will this layout work? Can this surface handle daily life? Does that original feature really need replacing?
You don’t need a show home. You need a home that makes your ordinary days better. That is the standard we keep coming back to.
OUR EDITORIAL COMPASS
Three things we won’t renovate away.
Useful over impressive
Clear explanations, sensible sequences, and questions worth asking. Advice should give you something to do—not another reason to feel behind.
Character over sameness
Older details, existing materials, and personal taste deserve a place in the plan. Not every room needs the same clean slate.
Context over shortcuts
Budgets, building conditions, and local rules change the answer. We explain trade-offs rather than pretend one solution fits every house.
A NOTE ON OUR GUIDANCE
Know the limits.
Build with confidence.
Our content is general information, not a site inspection, design specification, or personalized professional advice. Structural changes, electrical work, plumbing, and suspected hazardous materials need appropriate local expertise.
Check permit requirements and product instructions before work begins. If something in our content needs a correction or a clearer explanation, we want to hear about it.
